Tutoring in the City Program

This project, begun in September of 2009 and continuing to the present, has teams of students partnering with schools in the poorest areas of Kunming, where there is the heaviest concentration of minority and migrant children. Students, primarily from Yunnan Normal University, who are studying to be teachers themselves, work with the children after school and on weekends, who are having the most difficulty in school . Reading, Writing, Chinese, Mathematics, Art, Crafts and English are taught. This project offers the same opportunities to the migrant and poor children, as are offered to others who can pay to go to remedial weekend classes, and inspires the pupils’ interests in studies not regularly offered in the school.
